2010 in Review – Moncton Photographer

January 6, 2011 | Filed Under Engagements, Equine, Family, News, Prom, Weddings | 4 Comments

Well, we all blinked and it’s now 2011. Amazing how that happens so fast isn’t it. 365 days sounds like a huge amount of time. Remembering back to January of last year is like remember decades ago, and at the same time feels like it was just last week.

Every year in review post on every blog has something along the lines of “What a crazy year!” or “Wow so much has happened”. I didn’t want to be that blog, but really every year is that crazy. And every year, that much happens.

Major happenings of 2010? We lost my grandmother early in the year, and two amazing pets at the end of the year. I quit my job, and went full time Scuffed Boots. I booked, and shot, my first “real wedding”, and then shot a second one. I have 5 weddings booked for next year, when this time last year I had 1 going into 2010. I went through a rough patch in my personal life, and then recovered. I attended two amazing events, both the Gala Expo and the Equine Review, and already have plans in place for this year, AND January Thaw. I completely re-modeled my living quarters into what is now lovingly referred to as, “The Boffice”. (boffice – shared living space of a bedroom and an office, uniquely decorated in a modern rustic style.) I learned how fast you can screw up a good thing. And I also learned how great and understanding people can be. And the most major happening of 2010? I fell in love with this job.

Thank you to every client, every model, every fan that’s clicked “i like this”, every show groom, every couple, every blog reader, and every commentor. I dunno what I could have done with each and everyone of you. Thank you, x1,000,000.

I’ve collected a bunch of images from all through 2010. Some I’ve blogged, some I haven’t. Some are work work, and some a personal photos. But this was my year, in a blog post, celebrating Scuffed Boots Photography.

<3 Bring on 2011.

PS – These aren’t in any particular order. Just the way the cards fell on the table. :)

Chris & Katie – Engagement

July 7, 2010 | Filed Under Engagements, Shoots | 4 Comments

In business they always tell you to market to your ideal client, to find your niche so to speak. I believe it, but didn’t think it would really happen all that often, or as soon as it did. Scuffed Boots Photography is based around rural photography, a lil bit country, with a dash of city now and then. But since I really just went full time, I haven’t had the chance to really promote myself, (other then all the fine folks on Facebook tagging and posting and such. PS – Thank you!!) I really didn’t expect to find my “ideal couple” this fast.

Then Katie emailed me. I was already pumped, because this is my first engagement and wedding where I wasn’t already friends with the couple to start with, so to me that’s progress, like “HEY I really am doing this for real!”. Then we met for their consult in town, and I got details on the wedding and reception, which are going to be fabulous. And then we talked about their engagement pictures, because well that comes first right?

“We’d like to do our engagement pictures in a field.”

We were at Starbucks for the consult, so I couldn’t get up and jump around and squeal like a little girl. But inside I was, I promise. I mean really. How more perfect can you get! I held it in until I got to my car and then I called my mom (yes.. my mom.. haha) and gushed to her about it.

And now I’m gushing about the pictures. Katie and Chris you two are an amazing couple, and sooo easy to shoot. I still haven’t learned to open up during my shoots, right at first, but seriously you guys rocked this. I’m so excited about these pictures, and I promise I didn’t know Katie was going to wear yellow. Hello accessorizing with the fields? It couldn’t have gone better. I cannot wait until your wedding, just picturing it in my head I know I’m going to be gushing again.

Enjoy the pictures guys!

Love Story part 1 – Moncton Engagement Photography

April 23, 2010 | Filed Under Engagements, Shoots | 3 Comments

I’m shooting a wedding tomorrow. And I’ll admit weddings used to scare me. Honestly, it is one of the biggest events in a person’s life, well actually two peoples lives. And all that pressure to capture every moment, that hopefully only happens once? To document a love story, the start of a happily ever after? Scary.

But then I fell in love with weddings. I fell in love with rings, and white tulle, coordinating printed ties, cufflinks, bouquets, flower girls, mothers and fathers of the brides and grooms, best men and maids of honour. But I really fell in love with brides. And I really fell in love with grooms. So then you just have to fall in love with weddings.

Justine is one of those brides. Actually, Justine and I go back to when her and my sister met. And as they fondly remember, their friendship started when Justine used to drag Kate to the front pew of church when they were kids. And then as they grew up she dragged her to the back pew of the church. But honestly, Justine was always just that annoying friend of my annoying little sister. But then they grew up, and the annoyance left, and the friend stayed. We’ve shared some laughs, and we’ve shared some tears. We’ve gone on trips across country, and made some awesome memories even here at home. And tomorrow she’s getting married. Actually to be exact, in 13 hours she is getting married, to a great guy named Nathan.

I’d never met Nathan, until 3 days ago, as when he was living here, I was away at school, and then he moved to Ontario for work once I was back. Everyone had told me about him, I’d seen pictures, the usual, but I didn’t know him. But then I shot their engagement pictures, and I knew him. I knew him because Justine was the most comfortable she’d ever been in front of my camera, and she smiled her real smile, and Nathan would smile right back. Real smiles, I love them. (almost as much as weddings). So while I do the last check on my gear, I just wanted to let you two know that I love you both, even though I only know one half of you really well. Tomorrow is going to be a fairytale, and the first chapter of many of your love story. Justine you’re like a sister to me, and I’m going to miss you so much. And Nathan, take care of her… and bring her home at Christmas at least, PLEASE!

Sneak Peek: Chrissy’s Shoot

July 17, 2009 | Filed Under Engagements, Equine, Shoots | 4 Comments

On Wednesday, Danielle and I took a little trip to the wonderful Fredericton, New Brunswick to shoot Chrissy’s session! Chrissy won my giveaway in January at the 2009 January Thaw. I’ve been looking forward to this session since we drew Chrissy’s name. We got rained out the first time we wanted to try but it was definitely worth waiting. Perfect weather! Anyway that’s enough babbling, here’s some pictures!

We started with Chrissy and Lacey…
