Love Story Part 2 – Justine & Nathan’s Wedding

July 6, 2010 | Filed Under Weddings | 5 Comments

I wrote Love Story – Part 1 the eve of Justine and Nathan’s wedding. I’m not going to lie, I cried a little that night. I had talked about how scared I used to get by weddings, how freaked out I’d be that I’d miss something. And then we headed to the salon, and the nerves calmed as I watched Justine “blow dry” her hair with the heaters in the truck, so that her hairdresser wasn’t mad that she hadn’t dried it. And I reminded myself, this is still Justine, the girl you’ve considered your sister for a long time. And this is her day, so rock it.

I keep titling these posts “Love Story” because that was played as their processional, a beautiful piano number played by one of Nathan’s sisters. And as I’m singing this in my head, pivoting from taking shots of Nathan, and back to Justine and her dad walking down the aisle, I realized how well it fit. How this beautiful country girl had grown up and found her “Romeo”, and how they had to live apart for so long during their engagement and now were finally getting married.

The ceremony was performed at the Dundas Baptist Church, the church we had grown up in, which made this wedding feel like a whole new chapter to life. Justine is the first one from our “group” to get married, so naturally it would be a little bit more sentimental. And as I looked around and saw the smiles and the tears of happiness roll down the cheeks of the congregation, it sort of hit me that we aren’t kids anymore. That Justine was now a beautiful woman, marrying Nathan, the love of her life. And then they kissed. And inside I’m cheering. All the while the weather was blessing them with luck, with a small rain shower as the ceremony finished up.

We took the family photos in the hay field beside the church, which is one of my favorite places to shoot, just a simple field. All the while this beautifully ornate carriage is sitting behind us waiting to whisk Justine and Nathan away, complete contrast to the simple hay field. Once we were done there we headed to the Magnetic Hill Winery, which is a stunning place for pictures. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you so much to Jeff and Janet who graciously let us use their property even though it was before their season started.

The day ended with a reception and dance at the Ramada Plaza Crystal Palace in Dieppe, NB. Since Justine is so close to our family we had actually helped set things up the day before, but once the room was full of people and the candles were lit, it was stunning and fit the newly weds to a T. From the speeches that made us laugh and cry, to Justine and Nathan dancing to Justine’s dad singing and playing his guitar for their first dance, it was a hit.

Nathan and Justine, congratulations. Your wedding was beautiful and I miss you both. Come visit soon!

Wedding: Nicola + Chris

February 25, 2010 | Filed Under Weddings | 3 Comments

As I was going through getting pictures ready for the Gala Expo that I talked about in my last post, it dawned on me that I NEVER blogged these pictures. Which astounds me. Seriously.

I love these pictures so much, and am quite proud of them. I want to thank Danique Fisher of Century Classic Photography, who was kind enough to invite me down for the day, to shoot this wedding with her. As well as Nicola and Chris for approving of it. :)

Now instead of babbling on, cause I’m really not so good at writing about this, I’ll just put some pictures in it’s place. Feel free to leave comments, I’d love to know what you think!
