A Scuffed Boots Booth – Moncton Wedding Photography

In my head I’m a designer of all things pretty. Most of you know my post secondary training was graphic arts, so that covers the graphic design.
Then there’s the fashion design. At one small point in my life, I wanted to be a dress and costume designer, pre grade 12 prom. That’s when I bought oodles and oodles of prom magazines, and poured over dresses. However, job opportunities tend to lack in that department, and well I have zero patience for sewing. So that was a no go. I did however have one co-creation, my grade twelve prom dress was made by my mom, from a sketch done by me. My dress colours were hot pink and orange.. guess where my Scuffed Boots colours were inspired from? Ha.
Now that my life has moved into post education/grown up life, my inner designer is constantly redesigning interior spaces. My tv is constantly on HGTV. Every week I watch the early episodes of Sarah 101, Dear Genevieve, and try to catch Marriage Under Construction and Income Property. It’s my creative pep talk in the middle of the day. Colour schemes for my current design projects come from paint swatches, wallpapers inspire background patterns. Each design part of my life helps the other, complimenting each other like puzzle pieces.
So when I was getting ready for the 2011 Gala Expo held on February 20th, at the Moncton Coliseum, I was pumped. This is when I get to combine the interior design with the photography with the graphic design. And I did it the right way from the start. New business cards, new marketing material, new samples. I didn’t do a last minute design and print job the night before. Even though I spent 3 days having panic attacks because all of the boxes were on delivery trucks and delayed because of weather, the visual design was done early, and I could focus on the interior design.
So here’s the run down of my booth. The first boxes to arrive were two beautiful new canvas samples, both a 20″ x 30″ inch. Most of these were taken with my iPhone, but I wanted to document things a bit better this year.

The next project, was the two new furniture additions. I got this pair of captain chairs before Christmas on Kijiji for $50. After horrifying the male population in my life by wanting to paint that beautiful natural wood black, I reupholstered the seat in a black vinyl. Now, this was a way bigger under taking than originally thought, but they work for now. I’ll redo the seats some day with something a little fancier, maybe some black ostrich print. So from blue velour to black beauties, with some diy hot pink pillows (thanks to mom again, for her sewing help).

And last but not least, my new business cards, marketing material and album sample arrived the Thursday before the show. The sample album and cards will have their own blog post following this, but here’s an iPhone shot for now. And yes, those little shaped cuties ARE my new business cards. The new stitched floral pattern is inspired by my cowboy boots, and stitching on a lot of wedding dresses.

And there you have it! The makings of a Scuffed Boots Booth. Here’s some shots of the finished product set up at the Coliseum. So happy with how it all turned out. Few things to change for next year, but really, I doubt I’ll ever keep anything the same for every trade show. Oh and cushion backed vinyl in a hardwood print = best idea ever. Seriously that stuff rolls out like a rug! Thanks to everyone who dropped by, it was an awesome show and a HUGE turn out for a snowy day.

Silver Lining – Moncton Livestock Photography

Tomorrow is the first day of March, already. That tends to freak me out, when another month is behind us, and we’ll already be starting the third month of 2011. My wedding season starts in one month! I had originally planned to work part time this winter, but now looking at how busy I’ve stayed in the “off season”, it’s really good that I didn’t.
Unfortunately, as busy as I’ve been, winter always brings that funk. I dunno if it’s the dreary cold weather, or the fact that we have snowbanks this year half as tall as most houses. I know it happens to most, but when your self employed, you really take a hit. Especially in the creative industry. I hate wishing away time, because it already goes so fast, but I cannot wait for spring.
So as we wait for the next snowstorm to hit, and for March to come in like a lion, here is my late winter silver lining. My favourite part of the year when there is still snow on the ground is when our calves are born. Usually we get one or two during february. This year we are already up to 5 little red faces. So I guess it’s really the red lining of winter.
These shots are dark, and grainy, and really not technically sound. These were shot during the birth of baby 4, and the last shots are of her first time standing. There really isn’t anything comparable to seeing a newborn take it’s first breath. I didn’t share the dirty bits, but I thought shots of a fresh, still wet baby would be awesome to share. And of course the big eyed barn cat. Enjoy!

Bryan & Sally – Moncton Engagement Photography

I hadn’t seen Sally or Bryan since the day of our graduation. That day, we were all just a bunch of scared kids, sitting on that big stage, all getting ready to step into the next big adventure life was going to throw at us. How your suppose to know what you’re going to do for the rest of your life, no one yet has the answer to. I thought I knew what my plan was, and photography wasn’t even part of it. Surprise, more then 5 years later, that apparently was the entire plan.
So when Sally contacted me just after Christmas about getting engagement pictures done, and mentioned it was Bryan she was engaged too, that was another surprise. I didn’t know they were even together, let alone engaged. But these two know their plan, and their plan is each other. Bryan and Sally are one of those couples that make you melt just looking at them. There was no stress, there was no worry, it was just them, in front of the camera, being them. And there was not a trace of that scared kid look we all had years ago, or how cold they were after running around the woods with me for these.
I cannot wait to shoot this wedding later on this year, and I already know how great the pictures are going to be. Enjoy these!
Moncton Wedding Photography – Abril & Ian

Abril & Ian contacted me about a month before there wedding. Yup, a month. Now, on average, my brides and grooms contact me about 6 – 8 months in advance. So I didn’t really know what to expect when I showed up to the Mapleton Park Rotary Lodge, on October 8, 2010. But Abril and Ian were the most relaxed couple I’ve ever photographed. Which was surprising, if you knew the details. Not only was most of the wedding planned from across the country, but Abril’s dress didn’t even arrive in Moncton until the day before the ceremony. Yes ladies, the day before. But the ceremony went off without a hitch, ending with the longest and sweetest kiss I’ve ever seen. Note to all brides and grooms, always kiss longer then what seems appropriate. It makes awesome pictures.
Abril and Ian, thanks so much for letting me capture your day. Good luck on your new life together on the west coast. <3 xox
