Love Story part 1 – Moncton Engagement Photography

April 23, 2010 | Filed Under Shoots

I’m shooting a wedding tomorrow. And I’ll admit weddings used to scare me. Honestly, it is one of the biggest events in a person’s life, well actually two peoples lives. And all that pressure to capture every moment, that hopefully only happens once? To document a love story, the start of a happily ever after? Scary.

But then I fell in love with weddings. I fell in love with rings, and white tulle, coordinating printed ties, cufflinks, bouquets, flower girls, mothers and fathers of the brides and grooms, best men and maids of honour. But I really fell in love with brides. And I really fell in love with grooms. So then you just have to fall in love with weddings.

Justine is one of those brides. Actually, Justine and I go back to when her and my sister met. And as they fondly remember, their friendship started when Justine used to drag Kate to the front pew of church when they were kids. And then as they grew up she dragged her to the back pew of the church. But honestly, Justine was always just that annoying friend of my annoying little sister. But then they grew up, and the annoyance left, and the friend stayed. We’ve shared some laughs, and we’ve shared some tears. We’ve gone on trips across country, and made some awesome memories even here at home. And tomorrow she’s getting married. Actually to be exact, in 13 hours she is getting married, to a great guy named Nathan.

I’d never met Nathan, until 3 days ago, as when he was living here, I was away at school, and then he moved to Ontario for work once I was back. Everyone had told me about him, I’d seen pictures, the usual, but I didn’t know him. But then I shot their engagement pictures, and I knew him. I knew him because Justine was the most comfortable she’d ever been in front of my camera, and she smiled her real smile, and Nathan would smile right back. Real smiles, I love them. (almost as much as weddings). So while I do the last check on my gear, I just wanted to let you two know that I love you both, even though I only know one half of you really well. Tomorrow is going to be a fairytale, and the first chapter of many of your love story. Justine you’re like a sister to me, and I’m going to miss you so much. And Nathan, take care of her… and bring her home at Christmas at least, PLEASE!
